Why do Growth Groups?  Because discipleship is best done by example…

1You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine. 2Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance. 3Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.6Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. 7In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness 8and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.
Titus 2:1-6

A prayer you could pray for your GG today:

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.
Philemon 25

  1. Why do you think there are so many different religions in the world?
  2. What do you think are the most common misconceptions people have about God?
  3. How would you explain eternity?
  4. How often do most people you know think about spiritual issues?
  5. What’s the greatest spiritual advice you have ever received?
  6. How would you define “faith”?
  7. What do you think are some methods God uses to communicate to people?
  8. What is it about the Bible that most confuses you?
  9. What factors have most influence your current level of faith?
  10. If you could ask God to do any three things for you, and you knew he would do them, what would you ask him to do?

A prayer you could pray for your GG today:

15For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, 20which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
Eph 1:15-23

Give each person an index card or scrap of paper. Have them write “important” on one side of the card and “urgent” on the other side. Give them about three minutes to list as many things as possible for each category. This may lead to some discussion about the difference between the two words. That is good. Use this simple definition if you would like (or have them define the words for themselves): “Urgent” may be those things that vie for our time but don’t necessarily have any eternal significance. “Important” are those things that make a difference for a lifetime. After everyone has completed their lists, have them share the top three things on both of their lists.

Why do Growth Groups?  Because, as Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 12, God has designed Christians such that everyone needs to be ministered to and everyone needs to minister.

A prayer you could pray for your GG today:

5May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, 6so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 15:5-6

  1. What would Jesus do if he were in your shoes?
  2. When have you experience the closest thing to a miracle? Describe it.
  3. When was a prayer of yours answered? Tell about it.
  4. How frequently, if ever, do you read the Bible? What motivates you to read the Bible?
  5. For what are you most thankful to God?
  6. Do you believe sin causes a gap between God and you? Why or why not?
  7. Do you ever become angry with God when things go wrong? Why or why not?
  8. Do you find it easy to ignore or avoid facing up to deep spiritual matters? Why or why not?
  9. In what was do you religious beliefs impact the way you live your life?
  10. If you could ask God one question you knew he would answer right away, what would it be?

Why do Growth Groups?  Because God commands us to share with God’s people who are in need and to practice hospitality.
